Whirlpool Launches Washing Machines with Ozone-Based Fabric Refresh Technology

Story Highlights

The Ozone Air Refresh Technology, Whilrpool said, uses an in-built ozoniser to convert atmospheric oxygen into ozone gas, which is released into the washing drum. The ozone breaks down odour molecules and bacteria before converting back to oxygen at the cycle's end, the company explained.

Whirlpool of India Limited has introduced its Xpert Care range of washing machines, which incorporates Ozone Air Refresh Technology designed to refresh garments without water or detergent. The new product line targets consumers seeking alternatives to frequent washing of lightly worn clothing. According to the company, conventional washing practices can damage fabrics over time through repeated exposure to water and detergent.

Whirlpool claims the technology provides zero shrinkage and zero colour fading on dry-clean-only fabrics such as blazers, sarees, and sequined apparel when tested for up to 50 continuous ozone refresh cycles. The company also states the system removes up to 99.9% of bacteria, allergens, dust mites, and viruses, while eliminating odours including cigarette smoke and cooking smells.

"With Whirlpool Xpert Care and its Ozone Air Refresh Technology, we are reinforcing our commitment to better fabric care, helping consumers refresh clothes without water or detergent while preserving fabric quality," said Nakul Tewari, Vice President of Marketing at Whirlpool of India Limited.

The company said that beyond the ozone-based refresh function, the Xpert Care range includes standard washing capabilities. The machines feature what Whirlpool calls 6th Sense Technology, which adjusts drum movements based on fabric type and load, along with Steam Wash Technology and a Fresh Care+ function that tumbles laundry periodically for up to six hours after washing to prevent odours and wrinkles.

The washers operate at 1400 RPM spin speed and include Zero Pressure Fill Technology for operation under low water pressure conditions.

Manufactured at Whirlpool's Pondicherry facility, the Xpert Care front-load washing machines are priced starting at Rs. 24,500. The products come with a five-year comprehensive warranty and a 10-year motor warranty. The range is available through retail stores and online platforms across India.
